The Bloom Health and Wellness Center of Kansas City, located in Prairie Village, Kansas, is an authority in ketamine infusion therapy. We are actively involved in developing complementary treatment protocols.
Ketamine is a prescription anesthetic used for surgical procedures. Over the last 10 years, a compelling amount of evidence continues to grow and suggests that in sub-anesthetic (low) doses, ketamine infusions can restore the damaged brain pathways known to cause mood disorders. IV-delivered ketamine has emerged as a promising off-label treatment option for many chronic diseases, such as treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, migraine headaches, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), fibromyalgia, and certain pain disorders.
Ketamine infusions deliver careful, controlled doses of ketamine to the body intravenously (through an infusion into your body), and it provides an antidepressant effect. It is believed that ketamine targets NMDA receptors in the brain, leading to the release of other molecules that cause new connections to form between brain cells that are involved in thought patterns, mood and cognition, leading to the patient feeling better. For some patients, this ketamine application helps relieve symptoms of depression much more quickly and effectively than other depression treatment strategies.
Some patients achieve long-term relief after a single series of infusions, while others find that the infusions enhance their oral medications and complementary therapies. When administered in a monitored and controlled environment, studies show that ketamine does not exhibit addictive potential and may be administered on a consistent basis to sustain mental health.
Our treatments, along with appropriate IV infusions of vitamins and essential micro nutrients, have the potential for our patients to see a 70%-80% reduction of major depressive disorder symptoms, although all patients are unique and results cannot be guaranteed. If you feel you have exhausted all current treatment options, especially depression therapies, ketamine infusion therapy may be the next step for you.
The protocols utilized by Bloom Health and Wellness are developed based on our professional and continued review of current consensus on the off-label use of ketamine for the treatment of depression and other psychiatric and chronic pain conditions.
